The Talsperrenweg was completed in 2009 and certified by the German Hiking Association as a "Quality Trail - Walkable Germany". The first section around the Zeulenroda dam was awarded the title in 2006. 89% of the trail is in its natural state. Idyllic streams, wooded areas, vantage points and the constant proximity to the water characterise the trail as a nature experience.

The entire circular trail is 45 km long. At the Talsperrenweg, there are 6 links to the trail that allow for different circular hikes of 3-18 km.

Author’s recommendation

Be sure to visit the Patisserie Bergmann in Stelzendorf and enjoy one of the small delicacies or take advantage of the sunshine to go for a ride on the pedal boat on the dam.

Turn-by-turn directions

The trail leads the hiker on easily accessible paths once around the Zeulenroda Sea. It is therefore possible to start at different points. We start from the hikers' car park at the Bio-Seehotel. Here we walk along the Seesternpanoramabühne in the direction of the town. Take advantage of the many action spots! Continue past the open-air cabaret stage towards the lido. Continue into the hilly forest and walk along the water's edge towards the Riedelsmühle foreshore. Continue on the south side to the tip of the 6-kilometre-long reservoir to Kesselsmühle. The trail now heads directly along the water's edge back to the foreshore dam. Over quite hilly terrain, which is also popular with mountain bikers, the route continues towards Stelzendorf. Past the village pond, also a foreshore, further along the bungalow village of Zadelsdorf and the deep incisions of the "fjords" until shortly before Quingenberg. If you feel like a sailing trip, take the detour. The route continues uphill to Silberfeld. Shortly before, we leave the turning road in the direction of Sichelberg. We follow the path, which now meanders across pastures, fields and through forests until we reach the Weida/Pisselsmühle reservoir. Here we walk along the water's edge via Piesigitz to the warden's yard. This is bypassed via Bermichshof and we walk back past the Weidatalsperre equalisation reservoir. Through the forest along the Grobisch we reach the bank of the Weidatalsperre again and keep to it until the path turns through the forest towards Weisendorf. Shortly before the village, the trail turns off to the side in the direction of Teufelskanzel (Devil's Pulpit) and leads back to the hikers' car park at the Bio-Seehotel.
