Turn-by-turn directions
A little later, you should also plan a visit to the Vogtland Bohemian Mineral Center before heading to the lookout rock Schneckenstein (856 m). It is the only above-ground topaz rock in the northern hemisphere. You hike on, past the Schneckenstein settlement and the show dumps in a clockwise direction. If you don't mind the crisp climb, you'll be rewarded at the top of the slag heap with a magnificent view of the Sparkassen Vogtland Arena in Klingenthal. Opened in 2006, the arena is one of the most modern large ski jumps in Europe. Passing the parking lot Kielfloßgraben with its popular snack bar, you move on to the raft slide and the Sauteich, which are all part of the historic Vogtland raft ditch system. After short ups and downs you will come straight to the Muldenberg dam and go around it on natural paths counterclockwise. Always keeping the dam in view on your left, the trail reaches the dam wall, which you cross directly. Nearby are several refreshment stops and also a stop of the Vogtlandbahn. Continuing in the direction of Schöneck next to the dam, the hiking trail is soon accompanied by the train tracks of the Vogtlandbahn. After a few hundred meters, the path becomes a well-maintained trail that reaches the Schöneck sawmill after about 4 kilometers. You pass the Muldenquelle and can take a leisurely rest at the Meilerimbiss. After a short walk through the forest you have reached the stage destination, the IFA vacation park Schöneck. On the road past the parking lots you cross the railroad bridge. Here you will find a stop of the Vogtlandbahn as well as a hiking and cross-country skiing house. In the direction of the hotel, you will see the large signpost on the left after a few meters. A detour to the hotel is worthwhile not only for the stop, but also for the magnificent view.
