Many valuable books and artworks from different centuries can be admired in Greiz.
The early classicist summer palace of Prince Heinrich Reuß XI has been home to the royal library and the copperplate collection from the Greizer Ober Schloss since 1921. It was opened under the name of “Staatliche Bücher- und Kupferstichsammlung Greiz” the following year. The collection, which is steeped in tradition, expanded later on with the caricature collection of the Greizer Satiricum, in which initially was a compilation of caricatures from the DDR and later from all the German-speaking countries.
In addition to the books and etchings, these often humorous illustrations are the third emphasis of the collection.
