Wahrscheinlich reckte sich Burg Reichenfels schon im 12. Jahrhundert stolz in den Himmel und wurde von den Vögten von Weida erbaut. So genau weiß man das nicht, die erste schriftliche Erwähnung der Burg stammt aus dem Jahre 1356.
