“We have everything except bears.” Since 2011, this slogan has been wooing hikers to the 285km-long Kammweg Erzgebirge-Vogtland quality trail, which leads through three states and is so diverse that nobody should notice the absence of bears! The traditional starting point is Altenberg-Giesing in the eastern Erzgebirge. The Kammweg then passes through the Vogtland all the way to Blankenstein in Thuringia, where the Rennsteig begins.
Between May and October, hikers can take advantage of day hikes or extended hiking holidays, on which approx. 40% of trails are pristine, as well as the impressive landscape of the park. Along the wayside, different attractions such as Europe’s most modern ski jump in Klingenthal as well as the more than 25 museums or exhibition workshops showcasing folklore, mining and nature, offer a change of pace.
Although the Kammweg is broken down into 17 day-hike segments, it can be hiked in a number of different ways, depending on how fit you are and how much time you have. The Erzgebirge and Vogtland tourism associations offer extremely convenient all-inclusive packages complete with luggage transport services.
